The course consists of 5 modules spread over the 12 month duration of the course.

Who will benefit

The course will benefit anyone seeking professional recognition and qualification within the security sector at middle and senior management levels.

People who have previously taken the qualification include security managers, health and safety managers, senior police officers, fire service personnel and experienced members of the armed services.

Assessment Method

For each of the five modules learners are asked to complete 2 x 1500 word assignments, drawing on their own experiences and research.

There is no examination at the end of the course. However learners need to pass each module in order to receive the BTEC Level 5 qualification.

Eligibilty Criteria

The course is open to all those who operate within the private and public security sectors and have:

• A minimum of 3 years security management experience

            or

• 3 years in the armed forces in a supervisory role

            or

• Successfully completed the SyI Certificate in Security Management.

Further study options

The Diploma is equivalent to a Foundation Degree and on completion a number of pathways are available if you wish to continue studying.

• The Security Institute Advanced Diploma in Security Management Level 7.
  This offers learners the opportunity to achieve a Masters level qualification in 9 months and continue their studies with the Security Institute and Perpetuity Training.

• University of Portsmouth - holders of the Security Institute Diploma in Security Management receive 80 credits towards the BSc in Security and Risk Management.
